Colony Records Cocktail

Allen Katz of the New York Distilling Company is the creator of the Colony Records cocktail.  It is a bright slightly tart concoction that is quite refreshing.  The drink is tropical in nature but the addition of cranberry syrup gives it a festive holiday vibe.  Regardless, it is a delightfully mouthwatering drink that leaves one craving another.   

Colony Records

In a shaker glass filled with cracked ice add:

• 2 Ounces Cruzan Single-Barrel Rum (any well-bred aged Barbados rum will do)
• 1 1/2 Ounces Freshly Squeezed Grapefruit Juice
• 3/4 Ounce Cranberry Syrup*
• 2 Dashes Angostura bitters

Stir to chill thoroughly and strain into a cocktail saucer.  Garnish with a grapefruit twist.  

*Cranberry Syrup

In a medium saucepan add:

• 1 Cup Water
• ¾ Cup Sugar
• 1 ½ Cups Fresh Cranberries

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until cranberries start to burst.  Strain through a fine sieve discarding the solids.  Syrup will keep 7-10 days refrigerated.
